Denver Colorado Cannabis Delivery Will Begin This Summer

The Denver City Council has approved two bills that will overhaul the local marijuana industry. Making the city even more marijuana-friendly. This will allow Denver Colorado cannabis delivery to potentially this summer.

The next and final step is for the governor to sign the bills into law. That is expected to happen sometime around April 20.

The first bill will allow for marijuana delivery, which would likely commence this summer. The second bill will legalize bars where consumers can bring their own products to smoke, as well as clubs that can sell small amounts of cannabis to be smoked on-site. Denver will also allow tour busses or shuttles to allow cannabis on board.

These changes have been in the works for the past several years. City officials want to make the marijuana industry more equitable. In terms of cannabis delivery, dispensaries will need to hire third-party vendors to carry out the delivery. Also, Denver will remove the 220-store recreational dispensary cap.

Social Equity Criteria

Those that would like to open a new store or get into the delivery business must meet the state’s social equity criteria.  Delivery drivers will need to possess a special transporter’s license to make cannabis deliveries.

The social equity criteria will give disadvantaged applicants more of an even playing field compared to others in the industry.

In order to qualify applicants must be Colorado residents. They must not have had a marijuana business license revoked in the past and they must meet one of the following requirements: Live in disadvantaged areas. Or got arrested and convicted of a marijuana offense or have a relative that meets these circumstances. Another requirement they could meet; forced into asset forfeiture due to a marijuana investigation. Or they must meet low-income requirements.
