Colorado Cannabis Delivery Could Soon Take Effect in Denver

Denver could soon allow Colorado cannabis delivery. Along with a increase in recreational shops and consumption clubs.

With several different bills that continue to make their way through the various councils and committees. Denver is in a position to overhaul the marijuana industry in the city. One change is cannabis delivery, which would bring products to your door.

The Denver City Council unanimously voted to approve the package Monday night. The last vote it will need is expected to come hours before the unofficial cannabis holiday on April 20. People anticipate that Mayor Michael Hancock will sign the package into law on or before the “holiday”.

The first change will allow marijuana dispensaries to deliver cannabis via a third-party vendor. Delivery drivers will need to possess a transporter’s license. It will also remove the 220-store cap on recreational cannabis dispensaries that has been in effect since 2016.

Social Equity Criteria

If people want to participate in cannabis delivery or open a recreational shop. They will need to meet the social equity criteria. This will give disadvantaged applicants more of an even playing field compared to others in the industry.

In order to qualify applicants must be Colorado residents. They must not have had a marijuana business license revoked in the past and they must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Live in disadvantaged areas.
  • Got arrested and convicted of a marijuana offense or have a relative that meets these circumstances.
  • Forced into asset forfeiture due to a marijuana investigation.
  • Meet low-income requirements.

If the council approves the bills, cannabis delivery could start by the end of summer. Denver has about 205 recreational stores, and they have 32 percent of all marijuana licenses in Colorado.

Another change to Denver’s cannabis laws as a result of the package. Would be the implementation of bars and clubs permitting customers to bring their own cannabis and smoke it in the facility. Clubs would also be able to sell small amounts of cannabis to customers who could use the products at the facility. Finally, the bill would legalize tour busses or shuttles that would allow cannabis on board.
