Biden Signs Infrastructure Bill to Promote Marijuana Research to Helping Access to Dispensaries

A number of lawmakers in Congress have been working to make major changes in regards to the legalization of cannabis. Both sides of the aisle, in fact, have pushed new bills that would cause massive changes. Now, it seems that these attempts are making headway. This is because President Joe Biden has signed a new bill. This would potentially allow marijuana research to give researchers access to dispensary-level products. This means that they may now be able to study the products that customers will actually be using rather than the research-grade cannabis they had been forced to use before.

Past Infrastructure Bill Approval Attempts

As already mentioned, there have been a number of different attempts to cause changes in regards to legalization. The Republican side pushed forward a new bill that, among other things, would deschedule cannabis as a Schedule I. This would put it on the same footing as alcohol. Others worked to improve the banking situation for the cannabis industry. This would specifically to allow them to have more options to protect themselves and their profits and products.

New Infrastructure Bill Details

This new bill will have the transportation secretary work with the attorney general and secretary of health and human services. Together, they will write a public report within two years of this bill’s enactment to include suggestions on allowing scientists to access dispensary-quality cannabis. They will focus this report on studying the potential of impaired driving. This report will also need to contain a recommendation on creating a nationwide clearinghouse to “collect and distribute samples and strains of marijuana for scientific research that includes marijuana and products containing marijuana lawfully available to patients or consumers in a state on a retail basis.”

Additionally, the bill would also have scientists from non-legal states should also have access to this quality of products. This would be done in order to research their potential benefits.

Research Quality Improvements

With the introduction of this bill, researchers will now be able to study the cannabis products that customers will actually use. Additionally, the report connected with it will study the danger of impaired driving that might accompany legalization.
