The Pandemic Changed the Way People Use Cannabis

The Covid-19 pandemic continues to change everyday lives. Sometimes in good ways, and sometimes in bad. Cannabis and cannabinoids have created quite a stir with research showing an increase in sales and potential other benefits. The Global Drug Survey (GDS) recently released their annual report. This is the largest annual survey of individuals who consume drugs world wide. It’s the most comprehensive look at drug use and researchers have noticed an interesting trend in consumers.

“People who use drugs are not reckless human beings,” Dr. Adam Winstock said. He is the founder and director of GDS as well as a consultant at University College London. “And they changed some of the ways they use drugs, in order to reduce COVID transmission.”

Results

According to the GDS, alcohol is still the most consumed drug at 92.8 percent of respondents reporting usage. Cannabis sits in second place at 57.4 percent followed by cigarettes at 51 percent. CBD is lower on the list at 28.9 percent of respondents reporting usage. Many individuals adopted safe practices shortly after the pandemic and lockdown began to help prevent the spread.

The GDS then broke down cannabis users even further. 42 percent of consumers decreased sharing their joint, vape, pipe, or bong with one another. 25 percent decreased the amount of loose cannabis with other people. 24 percent only use their own handmade joints, pipes, and bongs. And 20 percent actively social distance. They continue to work hard to enjoy cannabis without endangering themselves.

Omicron

It’s hard to tell how things will go with this new variant recently discovered in the U.S. The country could go into another lockdown. Stores could close. Only time will tell. As more information becomes available, we will update you with the latest.
