Ruderalis Cannabis: Understanding the Third Option

Most people who use cannabis are familiar with the two common types of subspecies that sellers offer. These specifically involve subspecies called indica or sativa. Each of these subspecies are known for causing opposing effects. However, some may not be as familiar with the third type of subspecies. This third type of subspecies, called ruderalis, is usually considered a middle ground between the two other subspecies. So, let’s take a closer look at the subspecies to see what it offers to the users.

Description

In terms of appearance, it has a few branches and a fibrous stem with small, thick leaves. It is native to central and eastern Europe and Asia, being adept at thriving in poor or hostile environments. Botanists call it an autoflowering plant, which means that it can flower regardless of seasonal changes. How quickly it stays in a vegetative state will solely depend on the plant’s genetics.

Concentrations

These plants are best known for containing very small amounts of THC and large amounts of CBD. However, when people cross-breed it with either indica or sativa subspecies, they can improve the yield of THC.

Comparisons

As already mentioned, the ruderalis subspecies have much smaller amounts of THC and larger amounts of CBD than either indica or sativa subspecies. Because of this, it is more popular among medicinal cannabis users. In fact, recreational users do not explicitly use it because of the poor returns it offers. Also, unlike the ruderalis subspecies, the indica and sativa subspecies are not autoflowering and, therefore, are susceptible to weather and seasonal conditions for flowering.

Understanding

Looking at the differences between the three subspecies, it is clear why the ruderalis subspecies isn’t as popular with the recreational users. It doesn’t offer the same amount of THC that the more popular subspecies. Also, because of how difficult it can be to grow, most don’t want to bother.
