Exploring the Cannabinoid CBC

The cannabis plant currently contains more than 120 different cannabinoids. That volume can make it overwhelming for people who are learning about the cannabis family and all of its benefits. This article series is to help consumers identify common cannabinoids and their many applications. Let’s focus on the cannabinoid CBC.

Cannabichromene

CBC, also calledcannabichromene, is a common cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant. Its considered one of the top 6 cannabinoids found within the plant. It’s also a top researched cannabinoid, along with THC, CBD, CBN, CBG, and THCV.

Effects

The effect that CBC is most known for is its anti-inflammatory properties. Its reported to reduce any inflammation the body is feeling, especially internally. Studies have shown that both CBC and CBG (cannabigerol) bond with neurons in the brain. This connection helps reduce inflammation and oxidative stress commonly found in neurodegenerative diseases like MS and Huntington’s Disease. Another property that this cannabinoid has is that it acts as an antinociceptive. It’s a fancy way of saying it blocks sensory neurons from feeling pain. These sensory neurons cause inflammation in the body.

Research

Even CBC is one of the more abundant cannabinoids, there isn’t a lot of research available. Studies have been denied for years because of the association with cannabis and its psychoactive properties. CBC is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid and offers many positives in the way of treatment.

Other studies, like one done in 2010 by El-Alfy et al. showed that rats in a controlled environment performed well on stress tests after receiving CBC. Why is this significant? Well, stress is one of the major factors that leads to anxiety and depression. By responding well to stress tests, scientists concluded CBC could potentially become a helpful ingredient in antidepressants. Much more research is needed. But possibilities are open for medications that help with depression and isn’t classified as a stimulant.

Delta 8 THC and CBC

A research study showed CBC, when combined with Delta 8, had greater anti-inflammatory responses than either individual cannabinoid. By combining these two together, there is a much better response for consumers. It eases any pain or discomfort they could be experiencing before taking these cannabinoid products.
