Enjoying Baby Leaf Hemp as a Salad Green

Hemp has already been used in a number of different types of products, including clothes, lotions, and even pet supplies. It has also been tried in a number of different foods and drinks. However, now it’s being looked at as straight salad green. This is specifically appearing in the form of baby leaf hemp.

In fact, it has already been shown to have a number of different benefits for anyone enjoying a raw cannabis leaf diet.

Methods

In order to look at the benefits of baby leaf hemp, the cultivation process was looked at to find the best methods through the course of three experiments. The first experiment examined correlation between germination and harvestable fresh weight. It was found that clean field hemp seed lots that also had good germination potential lead to good yields. The second experiment involved seeing how the density of the seeds affected the overall yield. The resulting yields demonstrated that having a density of 2,970 to 3675 seeds per flat lead to the highest amounts of plants. Lastly, the cultivators examined how much seed size affected the yield. After using seven different categories, they found that larger seeds tended to offer better results. At the same time, smaller seeds resulted in abnormal or stunted plants.

Benefits

When it came to the actual eating of this new foodstuff, researchers examined the makeup of the leaves. Researchers found that it offered a number of different nutrients. Iron, Vitamin C, and calcium were just some of the nutrients found. With the use of these, researchers believed that consuming these greens would help in plenty of ways. Some ways included benefits like improving the immunity of the user and alleviating arthritic conditions.

Roadblocks

Before these leaves could be allowed as food, however, it had to, and still has to, be tested in a number of ways. The researchers looked at the taste of them, whether it could be grown indoors, and any special considerations people would have to worry about. They also tested to see if these pieces of baby leaf hemp actually meet the required food standards.

Potential

While these tasty leaves are being considered as the new superfood, or the “new kale” as some have claimed, there are still a number of bumps in the road. For example, people are still not comfortable with dealing with cannabis plants. Plus, tests still need to be performed in order to show the food’s potential benefits. Not least of which comes the worry of whether or not states will outlaw the cultivation of hemp. Only time will tell if this will go anywhere or if it will be left in the dust.
