CBD Treating Organ Damage: An Examination

Researchers have been studying the potential of CBD as a treatment for serious issues. Over the course of a few studies there have been conflicting reporters about its effect on certain organs. They focuse specifically on the effects on the liver and kidneys. One report warned of CBD causing damage to the liver and kidneys. However, some of those who used the study as proof missed or ignored a crucial part. However, at the same time, there have been reports that demonstrated just how CBD can be used to repair the damage of these valuable organs.

Disclaimer

As already mentioned, there are those who do not read the negative report about CBD extensively enough. During the study, mice were given large amounts of CBD over the course of several days. Over time, the mice started to experience severe adverse reactions, including liver damage. The result of this is that the readers might miss two very important parts of the study. Specifically, there is the part that admits a great deal more research needs to be done before their results can be definitively proven.

Secondly, researchers dosed the mice used as subjects with far more CBD than any human would need to take for any reason. In fact, the amount given to the mice was roughly three times and ten times the recommended amount for a human. The amount differed depending on the group of mice. One would expect to see negative consequences resulting from consuming those rates of any product, medicinal or otherwise.

Allaying Fears

While CBD could potentially cause this damage, people would have to take far larger amounts of it than is recommended in order for it to happen. In fact, the possibility of people accidentally causing this issue is virtually impossible. The simple reason is that CBD is not intoxicating. This is the part that many medications, especially opioid painkillers, have to worry about. Thanks to this intoxicating effect, people develop addictions to the medication.

However, because CBD is not intoxicating, people do not develop addictions to it. As a result, people won’t go for CBD to chase a high that damages their body, like with many medications.

Damage Repair

Despite the claims against the benefits of CBD, there is far more evidence to show that it actually repairs damage. In a 2017 study, researchers found that CBD’s interactions with the CB1 and CB2 receptors actually improve the body’s healing ability. The study also showed that CBD can treat common symptoms connected with liver damage, like inflammation.

Another study showed that, instead of damage, CBD actually helped rats by treating their liver damage. It accomplished this by killing off hepatic stellate cells, which cause scar tissue in the liver. In fact, recent studies have shown that CBD helps with the lung damage that people experience from diseases like COVID.

Future Hope

As scientists examine CBD more to learn what it can offer, the fears and preconceptions will hopefully disappear. With any luck, before long, CBD will be accepted as a useful treatment for a number of ailments, including liver damage. For now, it’s in the hands of researchers and scientists.
